    Versoix Storm Warning Light

Those teachers and candidates for an imminent test - earnestly certain that the Versoix Storm Warning Light can be relied on - should be disabused! It has not worked for at least a year (and we learn is apparently not about to be fixed either). It should be roughly behind the furthest boat in Bernard Dizier's adjacent photo.
For what it is worth (storms are frequently very localised) you can rely (as proved Friday) on the Hermance warning light.

Silver Medal at the Atomiade 2009

The club congratulates our club members Alex and Marco, who came back from the Atomiade 2009 with a silver medal in sailing.
Ten teams from various European research institutes competed on lake Unterhavel (close to Berlin) during the week-end June 13th and 14th. The boats, "Gruben Sprint" (dinghies of 160 Kg of weigth and 14 sq meters of main sail), were provided by the organizer. This provided for some rough sailing on the first day with gusts up to 6 beaufort.
Overall 6 YCC members participated, Alex, Jamie, Marco, Michel, Nick, Peter, who reported having a very enjoyable time and arrived 2nd, 6th and 7th at the regattas.

    Match Racing Regatta Rules

Thursday, June 18th at 20:30 we will have an evening dedicated to Match Racing Regatta Rules and to discussing the sailing instructions of the upcoming Surprise match race. Michal, Luca and Rob will give a short presentation on the subject and will be available to take questions. The event will start just after the club's practice, and will take place at the Buvette in Versoix (BTW the Buvette will have some food for sale).

Please note also that registration for the Surprise Match Race is closing soon (on Wednesday 17-6 at 12:00).

For those who cannot make it for the SU match race, another MR event open to dinghies and ynglings is scheduled later on in the season (see club's calendar).

    Sailing in the North Sea

Following successful similar events in the past years, the association ACAPELA proposes this year too to YCC members and friends a sea sailing outing 'in cold waters'. In particular there are still places available for the leg from Sumburgh (Shetland) to Bodo (Norway) on the first 2 weeks of August. This will cover roughly 800 NM, for an estimated cost of 1500 CHF for the 2 weeks (flight excluded).
